The powerful quake measuring 7.7 magnitude has taken a devastating toll on Myanmar, with more than 1,000 confirmed deaths and thousands injured as relief efforts grapple with the country's ongoing civil strife and complex terrain.
Buildings crumbled, roads were damaged, and a dam burst amidst Friday's quake, which had its epicenter near Mandalay and was followed by strong aftershocks, affecting even the Thai capital of Bangkok.
International aid is being mobilized, with China's Yunnan province, Russia, and India among the contributors. However, U.S. support might be hindered due to foreign aid budget cuts, raising concerns about effective crisis management.
