Asaduddin Owaisi, president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), has expressed vehement opposition to the proposed Waqf (Amendment) Bill, describing it as a direct assault on Muslims' rights.
Addressing a gathering, Owaisi questioned the proposal that permits non-Muslims to become Waqf Board members, pointing out that religious boards like those for temples and gurdwaras have exclusively Hindu and Sikh members. Donning a black armband in protest, he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of targeting mosques and dargahs through the legislation.
Owaisi further alleged that the bill, which empowers district collectors to certify properties as non-Waqf, is part of a Hindutva agenda to undermine Muslim property rights and religious freedoms. Criticizing allies of the BJP, he warned of lasting repercussions if they support the bill. Owaisi also countered claims about inter-community threats, emphasizing that the real danger stems from the RSS, Modi, and Adityanath.
