The Supreme Court has decided that the chief justice of the Allahabad High Court should refrain from assigning judicial work to Justice Yashwant Varma, following his controversial cash discovery issue. This directive followed closely after his repatriation to the Allahabad High Court, as recommended by the apex court collegium.

This development gains prominence with the government's official notification of Justice Varma's transfer from the Delhi High Court to his original post at Allahabad. This decision circles around the alleged finding of burnt cash at Varma's official residence, leading to intense scrutiny.

The Supreme Court also dismissed a PIL urging police intervention in the cash discovery issue, labeling it premature. An in-house inquiry, led by a three-member committee, has been set in motion. Meanwhile, Justice Varma has refuted all claims, stating neither he nor his family were involved.
