Stalemate in Mizoram-Assam Talks: Awaiting Fresh Dialogue Proposal
Mizoram has proposed official-level talks with Assam in April to resolve their border dispute. Assam had earlier proposed talks in March, which Mizoram declined. Previous discord surrounding two colonial-era demarcations has led to conflicting claims. Both states agreed to hold joint cultural activities by March 31.

The Mizoram government has reached out to Assam with a proposal to hold official-level discussions in mid-April aimed at resolving their long-standing border dispute. A senior official from Mizoram's home department confirmed this development on Friday.
Mizoram's Home Secretary, Vanlalmawia, revealed that this is the fourth formal communication sent to Assam, highlighting the importance of establishing groundwork before ministerial talks in Guwahati. Despite previous assurances, Mizoram awaits Assam's response.
The conflict stems from colonial-era demarcations dating back to 1875 and 1933. Recent efforts to address the issue include cultural and sports events to foster better relationships. The last ministerial meeting saw attendance from key officials including Mizoram Home Minister K Sapdanga and Assam's Atul Bora.
