An urgent call for action was made by a parliamentary panel to expedite the formation of the Lokpal's inquiry and prosecution wings. The panel identified the absence of these key divisions as a significant hurdle in the effective functioning of the anti-corruption body.
Forming part of its 145th report on the Department of Personnel and Training's budgetary demands for 2025-26, the panel insisted on prioritizing the recruitment of skilled personnel, including investigators and legal experts. Currently, other agencies like the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are handling the inquiries and prosecutions due to this gap.
The report highlighted the necessity for well-defined structures and jurisdictions for these wings within six months to maintain public trust in handling corruption cases. It also recommended digital platforms and structured timelines to ensure efficient processing of investigations and inquiries.
