Odisha has witnessed a significant surge in atrocities against Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, with 2,483 cases reported across various districts in the past nine months, a minister revealed on Friday.

The data, disclosed by Nityanada Gond, Minister for ST and SC Development, shows that Jajpur district faced the highest number of incidents, totaling 269 cases, followed by Cuttack Rural and Jagatsinghpur with 159 and 157 cases respectively.

Since the BJP assumed control in Odisha mid-last year, the government has initiated investigations led by DSP rank officers, alongside compensation efforts for victims facilitated by joint probes involving police and revenue officials.
