The Lucknow bench, led by Justice Subhash Vidyarthi, issued notices to Zahir and the other accused, soliciting their responses after the Uttar Pradesh government filed a revision petition. The intervention counters a previous directive from the special court, which had sought explanations from the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police about potentially sending the case for contempt proceedings.

Authorities cited procedural inconsistencies under the Gangster Act as reasons to challenge the special court's decision, deeming it illegal and arbitrary.
