The Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, reported that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) uncovered evidence of an Indian individual earning a salary from Pakistan over three years. This claim intertwines with ongoing controversies involving Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi's British wife, linked to alleged ISI ties.
As the situation unfolded, the Assam Police initiated an FIR and formed the SIT to scrutinize Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, a Pakistani advisor, over his social media remarks on India's governance. Sheikh, associated with the Pakistan Planning Commission and Colburn's former colleague, faces charges under the BNS and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Sarma noted that the SIT aimed to conclude its investigation by September 30. The potential involvement of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) or the Interpol remains open, contingent on final findings. Meanwhile, Gaurav Gogoi countered the allegations, highlighting political motives and asserting impending legal action.
