Swift Justice for 2019 Atrocity: Lorry Driver Gets 27 Years

A court in Telangana's Nalgonda district has delivered a decisive verdict, sentencing a lorry driver to 27 years in prison for a heinous crime committed in 2019. The 38-year-old was found guilty of raping and impregnating a Dalit woman after deceiving her with false promises of marriage.
The District Additional Sessions and SC/ST Court in Nalgonda convicted the man under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He received ten years' imprisonment for repeated rape under section 376(2)(n), seven years for cheating under section 420, and ten years under relevant sections of the SC/ST Act.
The sentences will run concurrently, as confirmed by Nalgonda District Superintendent of Police Sharat Chandra Pawar. Additionally, the court imposed a fine totalling Rs 3,000. The conviction follows a complaint lodged by the victim, leading to the perpetrator's arrest in 2019.
