Supreme Court judges B R Gavai and Ujjal Bhuyan are set to attend a legal awareness initiative in Arunachal Pradesh, as confirmed by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) this Thursday. The event, a significant part of the 'mega legal awareness programme camp-cum-sewa apke dwar', is designed to boost legal know-how and accessibility among tribal communities in the regions of Dirang, Bomdila, and Tawang.
Aside from participating in the event on March 29 and 30, Justices Gavai and Bhuyan will also visit a local jail and a children's home in Tawang. Their engagement aims to evaluate and address the legal needs of vulnerable groups, ensuring more comprehensive access to justice. Justice Gavai serves as the executive chairman of NALSA.
The program will provide attendees with instant legal guidance, aimed at enabling direct access to legal aid and grievance resolution. Tribal population statistics from the 2011 Census highlight the importance of such initiatives, given that over 68 percent of Arunachal Pradesh's inhabitants belong to tribal communities, emphasizing the need for targeted efforts to protect their rights and welfare.
