In a significant ruling, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday dismissed a privilege notice filed against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The notice, submitted by Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, claimed that Shah falsely implicated a Congress leader in the management of the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
Dhankhar stated that the claims made by Shah, referencing a crucial 1948 government press release, adhered to the truth and did not constitute a breach of privilege. He criticized the prompt invocation of this procedure, suggesting it was an attempt to garner media attention.
He further tasked the Ethics Committee to explore new protocols for members' conduct, underscoring that Parliament should not be used as a venue to malign reputations. The committee is asked to review existing guidelines considering technological advancements and social media impact.
