Bar Leaders Lobby Against Justice Varma's Transfer Amid Controversy

On Thursday, Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna, engaged with bar leaders concerning their opposition to the collegium's recommendation to transfer Justice Yashwant Varma from the Delhi High Court. The bar associations are protesting this move amid allegations of evidence tampering following a fire at Justice Varma's residence.
The CJI and other collegium members met with representatives from six high courts. These representatives stressed that transparency is paramount, notably in reference to cash allegedly found following the fire at Varma's residence on March 14. Concerns have been raised as an FIR has yet to be filed regarding the incident.
The ongoing controversy surrounding Justice Varma led to his repatriation recommendation. In response to the bar leaders, the Chief Justice and his team committed to a comprehensive review of the situation, including conducting an in-house investigation and publicizing findings to ensure clarity and accountability within the judiciary.
