Italy has committed 68 million euros to support humanitarian projects and rebuilding initiatives in Syria, marking a significant investment in the nation's post-conflict transition. This announcement was made by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani during a parliamentary session on Thursday.
The funding aims to boost healthcare, infrastructure, and food supply chains, with new cooperation projects slated to commence in coming weeks. Tajani also revealed plans for an upcoming business forum focused on Syria's reconstruction.
The European Union recently pledged 5.8 billion euros to assist Syria in its transition. EU countries have eased certain sanctions to facilitate economic recovery, as Syria's new leaders incorporate Islamic law into governance as part of a constitutional declaration.
