The Telangana Legislative Assembly has officially adopted a resolution opposing the use of population as the only criterion for redrawing Lok Sabha constituency boundaries.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who spearheaded the resolution, warned that this approach could decrease the representation of southern states in the Lok Sabha from 24% to 19%.
He further accused the ruling party at the Centre of attempting to marginalize the southern states' influence in national politics by reducing their parliamentary representation. Reddy urged Telangana's political parties to collectively negotiate with the central government to protect regional interests.
