The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) in Pakistan has issued a decision opposing the annulment of a Muslim marriage by the first wife if her husband marries another woman without her consent, a stance taken against a recent Supreme Court ruling.
Meeting under the leadership of Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi, the constitutional advisory body addressed topics including thalassemia testing in marriage agreements and ways to expedite Zakat fund distribution. Despite the council's significant influence, its opinions do not become law unless enacted by the government.
The council also greenlighted a government contributory pension scheme for new employees, advocating for Islamic financial compliance and stating organ transplants are allowable if the donor's life is safe, while deferring decisions on human milk banks pending further consultation.
