A 36-year-old priest has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a court on Wednesday for the murder of a woman in June 2023. Identified as A Venkat Surya Sai Krishna or Sai Krishna, he was found guilty under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections and fined Rs 10 lakh.
The prosecution revealed that Sai Krishna, despite being married, deceived a 30-year-old woman into a relationship by promising marriage. When she threatened to expose him if he did not marry her, he resorted to killing her, as argued in court.
The grisly murder took place on June 3, 2023, when Sai Krishna smothered the woman and struck her with a stone. He disposed of the body in a manhole, later concealing it with red soil and concrete. The police pieced together the crime from CCTV footage and Sai Krishna's confession.
