In a remarkable development in Himachal Pradesh, Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi declared that individuals displaced from forest lands must seek relief from the Supreme Court following the High Court's eviction orders.
Addressing the state assembly, Negi emphasized that while the government cannot contravene High Court orders, policies around encroachments are under consideration. Affected parties might leverage the Forest Rights Act (FRA) 2006.
Additionally, workshops aim to educate residents on the FRA's provisions, which could regularize encroachments. Previously, forms highlighted 1.63 lakh encroachers under the BJP government. Meanwhile, Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri assured pending compassionate job cases would be swiftly addressed.
