The National Commission for Women (NCW) has expressed approval of the Supreme Court's intervention to suspend a controversial observation by the Allahabad High Court. The High Court's remarks suggested that actions such as 'grabbing a woman's breasts and pulling drawstrings of her pyjama' do not constitute an attempted rape charge.

The Supreme Court found the initial observations alarming, describing them as 'totally insensitive'. By taking suo motu cognisance, the Apex Court effectively halted the lower court's ruling, ensuring a more thorough judicial examination.

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar confirmed that a comprehensive challenge has been forwarded to the Ministry of Law and Justice. This includes discussions with Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Minister of State for Law and Justice, to adequately contest the original ruling.
