India has strongly repudiated a report from the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), categorizing it as politically biased. The report, which highlights deteriorating religious freedom conditions in India, was described by Indian authorities as an attempt to undermine their democracy and multicultural identity.
New Delhi emphasized that such allegations are part of a deliberate agenda as opposed to genuine concerns for religious freedom. India's External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, stated that the USCIRF continues to misrepresent isolated incidents to cast a negative light on India's vibrant society.
Despite India's objections, the USCIRF has recommended that the US government impose targeted sanctions on certain Indian individuals and entities. The report's broad claims include concerns about recent arms deals and the potential exacerbation of religious tensions.
