An attempt to marry off a 15-year-old girl in Delhi's Rohini was thwarted by a collaborative effort between the NGO Bal Vikas Dhara and the local police. Police officials stated that the NGO acted on a tip-off about the illegal child marriage.
According to Bal Vikas Dhara, suspicions were aroused when a temple board member, with ties to the NGO, noticed the activity. The groom presented his Aadhaar card during the intervention, but the bride's family hesitated and provided inconsistent information about her age, leading to further scrutiny.
A medical team confirmed the girl was underage, contradicting the families' claims that no law was broken. Ultimately, her Aadhaar card confirmed her age as 15. Authorities have since registered an FIR and placed the girl in a shelter home while an investigation by the police and the Child Welfare Committee continues.
