Delhi Police apprehended four individuals accused of masquerading as priests and deceiving a man into relinquishing his gold ring under the guise of spiritual fortune. The incident occurred near JW Marriott Hotel, where the suspects, identified as Rinku Nath, Sahil Nath, Rocky Nath, and Vickey Nath, convinced the victim of the ring's 'defective' nature.
The complainant, Gagan Jain, who works as a chartered accountant, was attending a conference in Aerocity when approached by the accused. Dressed as sadhus with ash and bells, they claimed expertise in the Vedas and persuaded Jain about the need to give the ring away, exploiting his faith in Ganga Maiya and Mahadev.
Post-incident, Jain reported the scam, leading to the arrest of the conmen in Mahipalpur. The accused confessed their strategy was inspired by observing offerings made by devotees in Haridwar. The victim's gold ring was retrieved, and authorities are probing other potential scams by the group.
