In a significant development, Naxal violence has decreased by 81% across the nation, revealed Union Minister Nityanand Rai in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Additionally, fatalities among civilians and security forces have dropped by a significant 85%.
Rai attributed this decline to the National Policy and Action Plan initiated in 2015, addressing the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) threat comprehensively through security measures, developmental initiatives, and upholding local community rights.
According to Rai, the resolute enforcement of this policy facilitated a notable reduction in violence from its peak of 1,936 incidents in 2010 to 374 in 2024. The number of deaths also reduced remarkably from 1,005 in 2010 to 150 in 2024, indicating the plan's effectiveness.
