The Delhi High Court has thrown a spotlight on the recent Kalkaji assembly election by issuing notices to AAP leader Atishi following allegations of corruption during her electoral campaign. The petition, challenging her victory, accuses Atishi and her associates of engaging in bribery and misuse of power.
Justice Jyoti Singh directed not only Atishi but also the Election Commission of India, Delhi Police, and the returning officer of the Kalkaji constituency to respond to the plea. The petition, filed by Kamaljit Singh Duggal and Ayush Rana, residents of Kalkaji, alleges that Atishi's election practices were corrupt.
Central to the allegations is a claim that close associates of Atishi were apprehended with substantial cash on the eve of the election, purportedly to bribe voters. The petition seeks to nullify Atishi's election, citing electoral misconduct, including a breach of the pre-election silence period and non-disclosure of a criminal case.
