The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has raided the residence of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel as part of their investigation into the alleged Rs 6,000 crore Mahadev app scam. Searches were carried out at Baghel's homes in Raipur and Bhilai, as well as at the residences of a senior police officer and Baghel's close associate, officials reported.
Baghel's office reacted to the raids, noting in a social media post that the CBI's timing coincided with his planned trip to Delhi for a meeting on a drafting committee for the upcoming AICC meeting in Gujarat. The investigation has been taken over by the CBI from the Economic Offences Wing of Chhattisgarh Police, which had implicated Baghel and several others in an earlier FIR.
The Enforcement Directorate also alleges that the scam involves numerous high-profile politicians and bureaucrats in Chhattisgarh, contending that the app served as a syndicate for online illegal betting and money laundering across multiple layers of 'benami' accounts.
