In a tragic escalation of conflict, a recent airstrike by the Sudanese Armed Forces targeted a crowded market in North Darfur, killing dozens. The attack, which occurred on Monday night, resulted in widespread devastation, with videos showing burned corpses and rising smoke from the attack site verified by the Centre for Information Resilience.
The location, identified as the village of Tora, has been confirmed through satellite imagery alongside witness reports of 84 casualties, 26 of whom are dead, according to lists from the Coordinating Committee for Refugees and Displaced People. Emergency Lawyers have condemned the attack as a violation of international humanitarian law, demanding an independent investigation.
The ongoing power struggle between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who controls Tora, worsens the humanitarian crisis affecting half of Sudan's 50 million people. The United Nations highlights this as the world's largest and most devastating humanitarian crisis, with a significant increase in malnutrition rates among displaced populations.
