The Yashwantrao Chavan Complex in Latur faced temporary closure due to a tax dispute, causing uproar among shop owners. The revenue department sealed the property to recover an outstanding Rs 2.63 crore non-agricultural tax from the Latur Municipal Corporation (LMC).
Owned by the LMC, the complex is part of its responsibility to collect both property and non-agricultural taxes. Despite repeated notices, the LMC failed to settle the debt, leading to Monday's enforcement action.
Following intervention from MLA Amit Deshmukh and local officials, the district administration lifted the seals on Tuesday. The LMC had accumulated these dues over the past two years, necessitating urgent action to resolve the financial impasse.
