At least 54 individuals lost their lives in a devastating military airstrike on a local market in Sudan's western Darfur region, aid groups reported on Tuesday. The attack, which occurred on Monday in the village of Tora, sparked a massive fire, according to sources.

The Sudanese military, represented by Brig. Gen. Nabil Abdullah, denied intentional targeting of civilians, dismissing these claims as unfounded. The airstrike impacted a large section of Tora's weekly market, around 80 kilometers north of the North Darfur province's capital, el-Fasher.

Local organization Support Darfur Victims released unsettling video evidence displaying destruction and loss. More than half of the fatalities were reportedly women. This attack is part of ongoing violence from a conflict that ignited in April 2023 between military forces and the Rapid Support Forces.
