The government has made significant progress in verifying beneficiaries under the National Food Security Scheme, with eKYC completed for approximately 60 crore individuals. This marks 74 percent coverage of eligible parties, as stated by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Despite the advancements, several states, including Delhi, have yet to fulfill their verification requirements. The central government continues to prompt these states to expedite the process. Joshi highlighted that the Food Security Act targets up to 75 percent coverage of rural areas and 50 percent of urban populations.

Efforts are underway to rectify discrepancies, including over 31 lakh duplicate and 2.2 crore silent ration cards. Meanwhile, metrics from the Niti Aayog and World Bank emphasize significant poverty reductions, contrasting claims made by opposing parties about gaps in food distribution.
