Mumbai police have apprehended a Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) official, Sujay Thombre, along with five others for allegedly extorting Rs 10 lakh from a local businessman by abducting his father. According to reports, the group targeted the businessman during a strike involving 17 workers in south Mumbai's Fort area on Monday.
Authorities identified the arrested individuals as MNS workers' union secretary Sujay Thombre, Sunil Rane, Arun Borle, Arun Shirke, Rohit Jadhav, and Manohar Chavan. The group reportedly assaulted a supervisor named Sujit Saroj and forcibly took the businessman's father away in their SUV, demanding payment to release him.
The businessman promptly reported the incident to Azad Maidan police, leading to a case on charges of extortion and abduction under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. In response, police swiftly detained the six suspects, including Thombre, who was previously involved in three similar cases.
