KPK Government Opposes Federal Stance on Afghan Refugees

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government of Pakistan has refused to partake in the federal decision to forcibly repatriate Afghan refugees post-March 31. Instead, KPK is focusing on voluntary repatriation while providing necessary facilities. The provincial government has urged the federal government to facilitate a safe return without using force.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has taken a stand against the federal government's directive concerning the forced eviction of Afghan refugees in the area after March 31. Led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, the KPK government emphasized its decision to avoid participating in involuntary repatriation efforts.

Provincial authorities have stated their commitment to a humanitarian approach, ensuring that Afghans willing to return will receive adequate support and facilities. The KPK government plans to establish help desks in multiple districts, assisting Afghans to secure necessary travel documentation, facilitating a seamless journey home.

In opposition to federal policies, KPK Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has not only advocated against forced repatriation but also suggested granting Afghan nationals citizenship as a means to boost the economy. Efforts will continue to encourage documented returns while adhering to humanitarian principles.
