The special investigation team (SIT) probing the Sambhal violence case made a visit to the residence of Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rehman Barq to serve a notice. However, the team returned after not finding anyone at the premises, according to official sources.
Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar Bishnoi stated that the SIT will now proceed to Delhi to serve the notice, urging Barq, who is an accused in this case, to participate in the ongoing investigation.
This development follows the arrest of Zafar Ali, the president of the Shahi Jama Masjid Management Committee, related to the violence on November 24 during a protest against a court-ordered survey of a historic mosque. The Superintendent assured that actions are being taken per the high court's guidelines, and Barq's involvement is considered significant due to his status as a named accused.
