Two individuals have been arrested by Delhi Police in connection with a 'UPI hijack' scam involving the manipulation of security features on lost or stolen mobile phones to steal funds from unsuspecting victims' bank accounts.
The suspects, Gagan, a B.Tech dropout, and Ajit Sharma, a former manager at an online food company, executed the fraud by overriding security protocols and resetting UPI PINs after accessing Aadhaar-linked authentication. They skillfully executed unauthorized financial transactions, amassing a sum of Rs 20 lakh.
This operation was unraveled following a complaint lodged on the National Cyber Reporting Platform. Officers, with evidence confirming the suspects' involvement, swiftly apprehended them, leading to the recovery of multiple devices used in the fraudulent activities and a portion of the stolen funds.
