Bangladesh's interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, announced on Tuesday the likelihood of a commercial agreement with SpaceX's satellite internet network, Starlink, within the next three months. This initiative is set to provide comprehensive and reliable internet services throughout the South Asian nation.
Yunus, a Nobel laureate who assumed leadership after the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, emphasized that launching Starlink would prevent any government from disrupting internet access amid political turmoil. Last year, Bangladesh witnessed internet and text service shutdowns as protests escalated against the regime.
The interim government aims to curb inflation, which dropped to 9.32% in February, the lowest in 22 months, with hopes to further reduce it. Yunus also reassured citizens of a forthcoming national election planned between December this year and June 2026, promising it to be historically fair and transparent.
