The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea against the premature release of former Uttar Pradesh minister Amarmani Tripathi and his wife Madhumani, both convicted in the murder of poet Madhumita Shukla. The couple was released under a 2018 policy, having served 16 years of a life sentence.
Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice P B Varale advised the petitioner's sister, Nidhi Shukla, to take the matter to the high court. "What fundamental right is violated? Sorry," expressed the bench, emphasizing their decision not to intervene further.
Tripathi, 66, and his wife, 61, were noted for their age and good behavior, which contributed to the remission. The case, initially investigated by the CBI, drew significant attention as it involved high-profile figures and a tragic narrative of betrayal and murder.
