The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Punjab government to provide a detailed response by March 28 concerning the alleged delay in filing an FIR in an assault case involving Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath.
On Monday, Colonel Bath, who accuses 12 Punjab Police personnel of assaulting him and his son during a parking dispute, petitioned the high court to transfer the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or another independent body. He argues that impartiality cannot be maintained under the current police investigation due to bias and conflict of interest.
The court's directive comes as Colonel Bath's legal representative, Deepinder Singh Virk, highlighted that essential details, such as which officers were present and why no immediate action was taken, are sought in the state's reply. A video recording of the incident supports Colonel Bath's allegations of being brutally attacked without provocation. Subsequent protests by the colonel's family led to the suspension of the involved officers and a commitment by the state to reconsider the case.
