The Lok Sabha has decided to extend the tenure of the committee tasked with examining the bills for simultaneous elections, moving the deadline to the first day of the last week of the Monsoon session.
The move, proposed by the Joint Committee of Parliament Chairman P P Chaudhary, was approved through a voice vote in the House. This extension comes alongside the inclusion of a new Rajya Sabha member.
The committee, originally formed during the last Winter Session, anticipates an extended timeline for its work due to the substantial implications of the proposed laws, necessitating consultations with various stakeholders including political parties and state governments.
