In the ongoing attempt to broker peace in Ukraine, US negotiators met with representatives from Russia and Ukraine in Riyadh to discuss a proposed 30-day partial ceasefire. The talks followed separate discussions with Ukrainian officials as both nations continued military operations.
Despite agreeing in principle, disagreement over protected targets and issues surrounding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant complicate talks. Notably, US President Donald Trump suggested US control of the plant due to its expertise in nuclear management. Conditions at the plant, seized by Russia, have worsened over time.
Additional discussions covered guidelines for attacks in the Black Sea to secure commercial shipping. Russian media indicated that the talks concluded with no breakthrough. As tensions persist, Ukraine reported a cyberattack on its railway system, and its Special Operations Forces claimed attacks on Russian military assets.
