UN Reduces Presence in Gaza Amid Rising Conflict
The United Nations announced a reduction in its operations in Gaza following an Israeli tank strike on its compound, which resulted in casualties. Although Israel denies responsibility, the UN is compelled to downsize its international staff due to escalating conflict and safety concerns in the region.

The United Nations has decided to cut back its operations in the Gaza Strip after one of its compounds was hit by an Israeli tank strike, resulting in the death of one staff member and injuries to five others. This decision comes amid rising tension and conflict in the region, pushing the organization to prioritize safety.
In response to the incident at the UN guesthouse on March 19, UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric indicated that evidence points to an Israeli tank strike. Israel, however, denies these allegations. The situation has escalated following Israel's recent decision to halt food, fuel, and medical supplies to Gaza, exacerbating humanitarian needs.
While the UN will scale back around a third of its international workforce in Gaza, it maintains a substantial national presence there. This move also affects educational and sanitation services due to safety concerns and logistical challenges under the current conflict. Reports suggest ongoing strikes have disrupted crucial infrastructure and development projects, heavily impacting innocent civilians in the area.
