The Gauhati High Court has granted interim bail to Mahbabul Haque, chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya, who was recently taken into custody on allegations of facilitating unfair examination practices to help students score higher marks.
Justice Mitali Thakuria instructed Haque to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation, mandating his appearances when summoned, while barring him from influencing any involved parties. Additionally, Haque is required to post a Rs 50,000 bail bond, alongside an equal amount surety.
The court observed that there is a strong basis for the bail, yet emphasized reviewing the case further. The next hearing is scheduled for April 9. Haque was discharged from Tezpur Central Jail after completing the necessary formalities and has returned to Guwahati under tight security.
