In a significant move to modernize administrative processes, the Maharashtra government has introduced an online system that allows citizens to pay stamp duty and receive e-stamp certificates from home. This initiative marks a departure from the traditional method that required physical presence at vendors or prescribed centers.
The Maharashtra Stamp (Amendment) Bill, tabled by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and subsequently approved, paves the way for a seamless digital transformation. Since 2004, individuals were required to obtain physical stamp papers from licensed vendors, a practice now set for change with the introduction of this new system.
This reform reflects the government's commitment to enhancing public convenience, transparency, and digital governance. Importantly, the traditional option of purchasing physical stamp papers remains available, ensuring flexibility for all citizens. For those who overpay stamp duty, refunds will be processed within 45 days, reinforcing the system's efficiency.
