In a significant operation, police in Odisha have detained seven suspects accused of involvement in illegal cattle smuggling. They seized 87 animals during the crackdown carried out across two districts, Balasore and Mayurbhanj, the DIG (Eastern Range) revealed in a recent statement.
The operation, aimed at curtailing unauthorized cattle transport, unfolded on Sunday evening. According to officials, a total of six vehicles transporting the cattle were intercepted, leading to the registration of seven cases.
This enforcement action occurs shortly after violent clashes erupted in Balasore between alleged smugglers and activists. Earlier this month, two purported smugglers were injured in a police encounter in Sambalpur, underscoring the intensifying efforts to combat this illegal trade.
