A 72-hour shutdown by Public Health Engineering (PHE) department daily wagers has escalated into a significant water crisis in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP leader Sunil Sharma highlighted on Monday. The Leader of Opposition urged the government to initiate talks with protesting workers, whose demands include regularization and pending wage release.
The protest, sparked last Friday, led to hundreds of daily wagers clashing with the police during an attempted march towards the civil secretariat. The Leader of Opposition sought answers from the government, emphasizing the situation's urgency as workers and police confronted one another amid growing tensions.
In response, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary assured that the government is addressing their concerns. He appealed for patience, stating that resolving these issues requires due process, which is already underway. Meanwhile, the formation of a government committee to assess the demands was confirmed.
