President Murmu Commends Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on Its Silver Jubilee

President Murmu emphasized the significant representation of women in the Assembly, noting that out of 90 members, 19 are women.

On March 24, 2025, President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu graced the silver jubilee celebrations of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly in Raipur. In her address, she lauded the Assembly for upholding exemplary democratic traditions over the past 25 years. She highlighted the unique rule of automatic suspension for members entering the well during proceedings—a measure that has ensured decorum without ever necessitating the use of marshals. This, she noted, sets a benchmark not only for India but for democratic institutions worldwide. 

Empowering Women in Governance

President Murmu emphasized the significant representation of women in the Assembly, noting that out of 90 members, 19 are women. She also highlighted that in the 2023 state elections, female voter turnout surpassed that of males. Encouraging women MLAs to support and uplift other women across various sectors, she stated that such solidarity would draw attention to women's contributions and pave the way for their development. She underscored that women often balance professional endeavors with household responsibilities, and mutual empowerment would lead to a stronger, more sensitive society. 

Addressing Left-Wing Extremism

The President expressed optimism regarding the state's efforts to integrate individuals affected by Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) into mainstream society. She acknowledged that these efforts have reached a decisive phase and voiced confidence that Chhattisgarh would soon overcome the challenges posed by Naxalism. She commended the residents of Naxal-affected areas for their desire to embrace development and move forward on the path of progress. 

Balancing Development with Environmental Conservation

Highlighting Chhattisgarh's abundant natural resources, including lush forests and waterfalls, President Murmu pointed out the state's potential in sectors like cement, minerals, steel, aluminum, and power generation. She urged policymakers to ensure that environmental conservation remains a priority alongside development initiatives. Emphasizing the responsibility of connecting all societal sections with modern development, she called for a harmonious balance between progress and nature preservation. 

Tribute to Legislative Excellence

Reflecting on the Assembly's achievements, President Murmu noted that since its inception in 2000, the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly has passed 565 bills, many aimed at inclusive development and uplifting marginalized communities. She also paid homage to late politician Mini Mata, the first woman representative from the Chhattisgarh region to serve in Parliament for five consecutive terms, recognizing her dedication to social reform and equality.

President Droupadi Murmu's participation in the silver jubilee function underscored the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly's commitment to democratic values, social empowerment, and balanced development. Her address served as both a commendation of past achievements and a call to action for continued progress in the years to come.
