In a continuing saga of unrest in Manipur, police have arrested two members of the Meitei-affiliated Arambai Tenggol group following a violent clash with United National Liberation Front (UNLF) militants. The incident, which took place on Saturday, saw 15-20 Arambai Tenggol members storm into the residence of UNLF militant Irengbam Nandakumar Singh in Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai. The ambush resulted in injuries to four UNLF militants and an exchange of gunfire.

Police have taken the four injured UNLF militants into custody, while the attackers managed to flee. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Kshetrimayum Nikhil Singh and Yumnam Pringanba Singh, while further raids aim to capture additional suspects. Security forces also seized weapons and other materials from an Arambai Tenggol office in Khurai, indicating the group's violent activities prior to this incident.

Recent escalations highlight ongoing ethnic violence between Imphal Valley's Meiteis and the Kuki-Zo groups from surrounding hills. Over 250 people have been killed, and many rendered homeless since May 2023. A Supreme Court delegation visited the conflict-ridden state, urging unity and peace to end the ongoing turmoil.
