China's foreign ministry confirmed that no asylum application has been filed by former Philippines' President Rodrigo Duterte or his family. Despite speculation, Duterte's recent trip to Hong Kong was strictly for personal holidays, according to a statement made by ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun during a routine press conference.

The former president found himself in legal trouble upon his return to Manila. The arrest took place at the capital's main airport on March 11, as requested by the International Criminal Court (ICC). The arrest is part of the ICC's ongoing investigation into Duterte's controversial 'war on drugs.'

This anti-narcotics campaign, marked by its aggressive approach, defined Duterte's tenure and has sparked considerable international scrutiny. The ICC alleges various human rights violations during this period, prompting the legal proceedings against the former head of state.
