In a significant move, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar held a strategic meeting with Leader of the House J P Nadda and Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. The agenda centered on exploring judicial accountability and discussing the intricacies of the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) Act.
The consultations took place behind closed doors in Dhankhar's chamber, starting from 11.30 a.m. This initiative follows Dhankhar's earlier remarks in the House about the recovery of cash from a high court judge's residence and the need for a robust mechanism for judicial appointments post the NJAC Act's passage and subsequent annulling.
The chairman stressed the historical significance of the NJAC Act, highlighting the overwhelming support it received. He emphasized the necessity of revisiting the legislation to address accountability issues, suggesting a structured dialogue with the opposition and house leaders during the parliamentary session.
