Gold Smuggling Scandal: Hotelier Tarun Raju Remanded to Custody

A special court specializing in Economic Offences has ordered hotelier Tarun Raju to be held in judicial custody for 15 days. Raju is under suspicion for his alleged involvement in a high-profile gold smuggling operation linked to actress Ranya Rao.
Raju was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Wednesday, prompting a three-day custody period with the DRI for intensive interrogation. Following this, Raju was presented to the special court, which subsequently extended his detainment.
The case centers around a dramatic seizure of gold bars valued at Rs 12.56 crore from Ranya Rao at Kempegowda International Airport. Subsequent searches of her residence led to the recovery of additional gold jewellery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Indian currency totaling Rs 2.67 crore.
