A sessions court has handed down a seven-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to five individuals involved in a 2022 kidnapping incident. Additional Session Judge Saurabh Gupta also levied fines on the convicted for abducting two men at gunpoint after offering them a lift in their cab, authorities confirmed.

The convicted men were charged with assaulting the victims, robbing them of cash, cell phones, and forcing them to transfer money using the UPI payment system. The Manesar police arrested the five assailants: Vivek alias Bada, Pawan, Chintu, Avdhesh, and Sonu. Based on conclusive evidence and witness testimony, the court ruled on March 11, imposing a fine of Rs 30,000 on convict Sonu and Rs 20,000 on his accomplices.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of July 10, 2022, when a Manesar-based company employee and his friend accepted a lift from the Manesar bus stand to Anand Vihar, Delhi. The victims reported the presence of five men and revealed they were threatened at gunpoint and with a knife, coerced into transferring Rs 27,000 via UPI. The heroes were later dropped near Nirvana Country in Gurugram. A country-made pistol, cartridge, knife, and the vehicle used in the crime were seized by the police.
