A 33-year-old resident of Taloja, Navi Mumbai, has landed in legal trouble after posting a derogatory message about Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his WhatsApp status, according to police reports on Thursday.
The man was reportedly booked under sections 299 and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for conducting deliberate acts intended to insult religious beliefs and provoke religious sentiments. He also faces charges under pertinent sections of the Information Technology Act.
The criminal case was registered at the CBD Belapur police station following a complaint filed by a police officer. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is currently ongoing.
