Lalsingh Rajpurohit, a notable figure within the Shiv Sena's ranks in Mumbai, was apprehended by police in connection with an extortion charge dating back to last December, authorities confirmed on Monday.
The arrest happened late Sunday night and was followed by Rajpurohit's expulsion from the Shiv Sena's Shinde faction, an action prompted by party leader Eknath Shinde, amid intensifying scrutiny over his alleged offenses.
Rajpurohit's case involves demands made to a road construction contractor, and a separate incident where he reportedly seized a shop unlawfully. Police have also outlined charges for defrauding an elderly couple in the suburb of Kandivali, as investigations continue in these high-profile cases.
